WILL KEENO’S MONKEY BUSINESS GET HIM IN TROUBLE?

Keeno is a mischievous little monkey, and his best friend Ernest is a clever and responsible young elephant. One day Keeno spots a big, shiny banana tree, but it is far away—all the way on the other side of the river of their jungle home—and his parents have told him never to cross the river without an adult. Ernest reminds him of this, but Keeno decides to cross anyway. When he finds himself in great danger, he must rely on his friend Ernest to rescue him! In the end, Keeno learns two very valuable lessons about friendship and following family rules.

About the Author: Maggie van Galen grew up in Northern Michigan listening to her father’s stories, imagining the characters, being transported to the locations, and engaging in the plots. Maggie discovered that she too had the creativity to put her thoughts to paper, and always used writing as a sort of escapism. After years of telling stories to her boys and their friends, Maggie decided to share them with the world. She truly hopes that you enjoy them too! Maggie lives with her husband and two beautiful boys on the North Shore of Massachusetts.

We have open Gallery/ Gift Shop hours Wed. – Sat. 11 – 5 as well as “The Meeting Place” scheduling the space for meetings at the conference table, One on One tables and for group gatherings around the hearth. Working artist’s studios are in full swing, classes running throughout the day and evening. Several artist and community groups have been very successful such as the Artists Success Circle, a Writers Group and a few book clubs. There are many exciting events planned for the months ahead some of these are an Open Mike Nights, Holiday on Main St., Artists Weekend, Goddess & Wellness Evening, Artisan & Craft Shows just to name a few. This is a great exercise to get a clear visual on the things you want in your work and in your life. We have done these in the past and many people had a break through that day. I have my vision boards all around me in my studio and I still find inspiration from them. Please bring your board, glue and anything extra you might want to put on your board. We have magazines and other collage materials. Just show up and let the magic happen!

Hi Everyone, have you seen the new trends for the season? Faux Fur, Shorty Boots, Riding Boots,Tassels, Snake Skin, Yes purple is still hanging on but a little darker wine color than brighter. Houndstooth and checks, I'm getting a little 80's afraid! Chunky Cardigans cute if your a stick with skinny jeans and a scarf, Ow warm. Charms and Chains are so hot right now. Some of the charms that are in are owls, Buddhas, natural stones and anchors. FEATHERS! yes feathers in the hair and jewelry are the hottest trend right now! They are not quite your 70's feathers but a little more sophisticated but not by much. Rock this trend quick because this one not going to be around for long. Art Vs. Fashion? What makes a piece "ART" and what makes it "Fashion"? I have struggled with this topic most of my adult career and before. It started in High School when I created my first line of jewelry for a school art show. I did it for art class credits but the topic of using found materials and use of the latest trends in my pieces led to questions of is jewelry "Art". This continued especially through out college were the Jewelers were not considered fine artists as the painters and sculptors were. Though both the mediums of sculpting and color study are used in jewelry making. We as jewelers are essentially creating small wearable sculpture using stones, beads and enamel for the coloration of the work. It can be a little frustrating to get past this Craft dilemma when it comes to being taken seriously in the gallery/art scene. But I have to tell you that in my opinion jewelry has made Art accessible to the masses and that's not such a bad thing. I can create art that is made for the owner to enjoy and they inturn proudly wear the art piece out to the public instead of the few people that make it to the conventional art openings. I still question these two categorization's with my Art Jewelry and my Fashion Line of Jewelry so I do have a few of my own criteria to what makes my jewelry Art or Fashion. One, Art needs to be original, handmade and resonate with me as well the wearer. Fashion on the other hand should touch on the latest trends and styles. It should also be part of what creates someones individual style. Art and Fashion both are individual and personal so anything goes.We have discussed this in our Artists Success Circle and man did it get heated! The potters, jewelers and fiber artists all had a different view but the underlying message was that feeling of being considered and honored as an artist is what we all wanted. Native American Jewelry Workshop

We had such a great time at the "Sisters Weekend Workshop" this past Saturday! The sisters had a Native American theme for their weekend together. They have a yearly tradition to spend time together with a mutually chosen theme and some set criteria. Having fun, seeing new sights, learning and expanding their skills are the few that stood out for me. Learning a skill was where I came in and I feel very honored to be a part their special weekend. They both had this strong want to have a keep sake record for their families to share great tradition. The way that we did this was by creating a disc with the date and their names on them as part of their incredible pieces seen above. We gathered natural items and some traditional Native American materials to work with and just let our imaginations go. I taught them many new jewelry skills coupled with working together on the design. I am so very proud of them for their amazing results.
Thank You for the experience ladies! I feel very inspired and honored!

CELEBRATES YOUTH ART MONTH

From Mrs. Cannon: A very special exhibition of the Middle School artwork will be on display at the Scala’s Art Center, 28 Main Street Georgetown from March 31- April 3. The Art department wanted to expand our yearly middle school exhibition into the community, and the new art center downtown was a perfect venue. We will also have convenient evening and weekend hours for students’ family and friends to view the work and tour the art center. The art gallery atmosphere gives students “a real-life connection” to the artist exhibition experience. We hope the community will come out and view our wonderful young artist work. Fashion Trends This Spring

I am loving some of the fashion trends happening this season. Stripes are so hot right now but remember girls they can be less than flattering around our trouble areas. What I do is use them as accents or under a sweater or blazer. So cute! I am seeing allot of great corals and aquas (my personal favs). Natural gemstones and charms in jewelry. That nautical theme is poping up once again, just remember to keep it in check with the stripes and accessories can get a bit over done. I use the old proverb: put your accessories on then edit by taking at least one off. Purple is the color with kids and adults alike this time around. Juicy colors for the spring and summer collections. Fun! Fun! Fun! And yes some Day-glow for the kids is eking it's way in, but ladies a good rule of thumb is if you wore it the first time it was in fashion it might be to young for ya this time. Sucks when that happens! Always remember fashion info. is great but creating your own personal style is always in fashion!

Today I made a zine called Me, Myself, and I. Its a story plotted out in poetry, the actual story is about how zines are important to my life and everyone else's life so go out and be honest, creative raw, and absurd. Thank you everyone for making the Art & Wellness Evening the Scala Art Center a huge success! It was wonderful to see all the happy calm faces enjoying each other, including me thanks to Joellen DiLiero from Brain Awakening. Thanks again for chilling me out. We had amazing artists with beautiful pottery from Kathy Kriegal, Art Knitting by Trysha Lych and did you know that she does CranioSacral work as well. I had a treatment and it calmed down my migraine. Our puppet lady Barb Harrold with amazing soft sculptures, the multi talented Andrea Mills adding to her list Reiki. Alyce Underhill has these interesting mixed media pieces that are wonderful. We also had Suzanne Poitras encostic paintings these are little beauties. We featured the beautiful painting and mixed media work of Lynne Schulte. The Friendship Connection here our building is offered by our own Julie Anne Fiore-Hauser Developmental Behaviorist. I saw allot of people enjoy being pampering. Dr Jennah Deiter was here giving spinal assessments. (Oh LaaLaa).Pam Chanel was here with her ReLiv products which my husband also uses and likes. Shaklee products brought by Emily Taft. Jillian Davis also now in the center with JoyBirds making your life passion your business. Our Mary Kay girl Anne Schaefer was here making us beautiful. Deby's Sewing Service which most of use and love! She was showing us how to revive your own wardrobe. Nancy Gallant was high lighting her business "Time Well Spent". The local writer Harriett B. Varney Miller was here signing her book "Birth of the Phoenix". We also had some of our teachers previewing there up coming classes such as Fashion Sewing and After School Film School. Joe introducing drum making this is one of the many exciting art class coming up.Oh yes I was there with my jewelry, paintings and taking about my new classes. “The Meeting Place” at the Scala Art Center is a charming place to have your meetings at our conference table, a group gathering around the hearth as well as a One on One meeting with your client.

Allot of us work at home and let’s face it sometimes the house is not in any shape to impress those clients. We have a creative place that has character and is set up for your business needs. We also have this comfy spot in front of the hearth for more informal gatherings such as book clubs, sewing circles and small meetings.

The Conference Table for $40. (2 hours or so)

The Hearth is available for $25. (2 hours or so)

Hi, my name is Lisa Scala and I am looking for great art teachers to teach at the Scala Art Center in Georgetown MA. We already have amazing artists instructing a variety of courses but we would like to add to our great list of mediums. We have a writing class, painting lessons, jewelry workshops & classes as well as a drawing class lined up for next month as well.

We run these classes on a rented community space basis, so 25% of the class income goes to overhead. The teachers use the community space that works the best for there class and we book the area and time. The teacher makes there own flyer's and promote there class. We will put the class listing on our web-site and we include you in our general promotions. This works well because all of us are driving people to the center so it helps everyone. We now have open Gallery hours during the week at the Scala Art Center. We are open Wednesday - Saturday 11 - 5 and of course for classes. We have "The Meeting Place" spaces to rent for conferences and small group gathering in front of the hearth. This can be booked during private closed hours as well as during open hours.This is a great place to meet for One on Ones as well. If you work at home or just need a space to meet off of rt. 95 this is a cozy creative place to do that. For your convenience we do have coffee and baked goods available for a small contribution. Plan for a Wellness Evening in September a night of creativity and luxury. We will be having our Official Grand Opening September 25th during Georgetown Days with a Artisan & Craft Show, kids crafts, Artists Demos and After School Film School Flicks and refreshments.

Dance Club at the Museum?

Wow, what a weird but fun night the Artist Success Circle had last night at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston (Thanks Again Nora!). I finally got to the Gardner Museum and it was so much fun and so beautiful!
The three story palazzo/atrium or what ever you might call it. It is amazing with it's garden in the center and all the wonderful sculptures. What was interesting about this night was the combination night club/Renaissance museum combo. What a "trip" to be looking at a Rembrandt while two people are snogging (kissing for those of us out of the twenties scene)in the corner. It is an amazing museum with so much to see in a home setting well a little more than a home. I'll need to go back some afternoon to take it in further.
Just a reminder that anyone creative is invited to join us at the Scala Art Center Artist Succes Circle we meet once a month on Monday evening.

Wildthreads! Digital cameras and photo-imaging software have made it quite easy to take pictures and distribute them on blogs, in social media, and even in print magazines. But perhaps you sometimes wonder why some people' pictures come out clear, sharp, and colorful while others—maybe yours?—look dark and fuzzy. Or have shadows in all the wrong places.

Especially when shooting your artwork, you want the result to look as professional as possible. So I asked our design director, Larissa Davis, to share some of her tips on how to take better pictures of your art.

8 Tips from a Pro

Take the photos with natural lighting, if at all possible. A flash causes shadows and glare. Soft, northern light is best. If the light inside isn't optimum, take your subject outside; this works best if it is a slightly overcast day.

Shoot with the light behind you. Whenever possible, take your photo from a vantage point where your back is to the light. Don't shoot “into” the light; your subject will be in shadow.

Use a tripod or other method of stabilizing the camera. Otherwise, use a steady hand. This is especially important with close-ups.

Remove distractions. Take a look in your view finder and look at what's around your subject. Is there a plant behind it? Papers off to the side that you don't want in the picture? Remove any objects that aren't there to enhance the photo.

Neutral doesn't mean boring. It's usually best to photograph your artwork against a neutral background. But that doesn't have to be a white wall. Something with texture, such as Japanese paper or a nubby linen tablecloth can make the subject pop and give it a context.

Vary your angles. Try taking a faraway shot, a close shot, and a detail shot of each element. Shoot from above and from below.

Give it some scale. If you're shooting your artwork for selling purposes, especially, it can be a good idea to style your piece with another object that shows the scale. This could be a tulip, a button, a hand (with the object in the palm), or a house, depending on the piece.

Use a light box. A light box is a professional photographer's tool that reduces glare and shadows and makes it easier to trace and edit your images digitally. A light box also helps bring out the details in your artwork. Fortunately, you can easily and inexpensively make one at home.

We have created the Artist Success Circle for artists and creative people to get together and share their ideas and to network. We want this to be a safe place to get support and have fun. We are having our first meeting Monday March 15th at 5:30 (at the Scala Art Center 28 West Main St. Georgetown MA 01833) to plan what we would like to get out of this group and what this group can give back. We are planning events and topics for the future meetings. We want this group to be open to the creative community. We have a movie night planned, it is the inspiring "Who Does She Think She Is?" It is officially the Scala Art Center, I can't believe this is actually happening! Their is allot of excitement and support going on in Georgetown Ma! Thanks! We are having sign ups for classes and starting the Artists Success Circle March 15th at 5:30 all creative people are welcome! We are also having two Fashion Shows introducing our new tenants Bridal Stock Exchange, Studio 27Art, The Artisans Exchange, and Lisa Scala Jewelry, Art & Fashion. We will have open studios for all the other artist in the center.We are having a Prom Fashion Show Fri. evening March 26th at 7:00 and a Bridal Fashion Show Sat. March 27th at 2:00. (open 11 - 5) We will have many other wonderful artists and crafters with wedding related handmade items. Refreshments will be served. It has been an amazing and a bit stressful journey so far and we are just getting started. There is such great energy and care going into all that is happening at the Center. Rare Bird of Fashion The Irreverent Iris Apfel, can you say WOW!!! There is an exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum of Iris Apfel a retrospective of her work and it is inspirational! You need to go to this if your a fashion diva or just to see how powerful women can be. My mom and I spent the day playing and wowing and studying everything Iris collected, designed and put together. We were in aw. Every woman in these rooms were so happy and charged it was the most wonderful energy. Her accessories from around the world were just magnificent and super sized. The fabrics "were to die for" all reproductions of exquisite antique material from around the world. This was such a wonderful day to spend with my mother sharing something we both love and appreciate. There is this fun thing at the end that you can take different pieces and mix and match to create your own designs on the computer. All I want to do now is create and share my creativity!

I have been thinking of doing a workshop or a talk about doing visual displays to help market your art work. I have been doing display work for over 20 years. I started at my parents antique shop and then work at a jewelry gallery for many years. The jewelry gallery is were I got my most creative ideas and allot of experience using creative props to enhance the jewelry. We would redo our display cases and the two front windows every Friday. After awhile people would check what we had come up with on there way to dinner or coming home from work. This made it quite the challenge to come up with unique and fabulous windows! It was allot of fun and hard work sometimes working into the evening.

The important things to keep in mind when creating a successful visual display are:

1) Choose a theme or feeling that you are trying to create. If you stick with things you love they will probably have a connection to your work automatically.

color, style, texture, Asian, vintage, etc.

2) Think out of the box! Anybody can buy the display forms out of a catalog. Your own unique look! Look in your local hardware store, fabric store, or in antique shops to name a few places to find unique display items.

3) Try to keep it simple and clean looking. Keep in mind that your work will add the interest and color, the displays are only to enhance and be a backdrop for the pieces.

4) Show your work at different heights and levels. This can be easily achieve by putting boxes under your fabric or table clothes. Another idea is to use cake stands to lift the work up.

5) I like to use repeated shapes & images to keep the theme flowing. Using your logo in many different places in your display, this a good way to brand yourself and make people remember your art work.

6) Keep in mind that your display must work for every different venue. Sometimes we don't even know the configuration of our both or space before hand so keep this in mind while designing your display.

7) Easy set up! The weight and the amount of time it takes to set up the visual up is a very important thing to consider as well. This is not as easy as it sounds, I'm still working out the kinks in mine.

8) Plan out your display on paper before investing allot of time and money in various items that don't work together. You can work out sizing and shapes so you can concentrate on buying just what you need.

9) You can save money by using things that weren't necessarily meant for display. Be inventive!

10) Have fun with it and get creative! This will show through in how amazing it turns out!

W would like to create an artist community and gathering place that would be a space
to learn and share our passion for art with others. I have many friends and aquaintances that would love to
share there talents and love of art. We need a local place for our children and adults to learn to enjoy the process of creating.
We have talked about having "Lecture Series" inviting in artists and other interesting people.
We would also like to have an" Artists Success Circle" to exchange info.and ideas to succeed in the arts.
We have already had Artisan & Craft Shows that went very well socially as well as for selling our work.A big thanks to our supporters!
We plan on continuing these shows monthly. We also have been collecting winter coats for the less fortunate served at Ruth's House.
Thank you so much for the 75+ coats that were donated! We have really seen the local hometown support for this endeavor.
We really need this cultural gathering place in our downtown to bond as a community as well as bring others back into our great town.
I would really appreciate any input and ideas to make this a success.

"FORM ART CENTER" sharing our creativity!

It was a long haul but a great exsperience running these Art Shows and our downtown "Shop Local Event" I'm a little tired at this point but none the less excited about starting the"FORM ART CENTER" We are looking for artists to rent spaces to teach classes and have there art studios. We are trying to create an artists community with classes, shows, lectures and support for local artists. We want to bring culture and a place for people to hang out and enjoy!

Running the Show/ Whats Next?

My friends and I have been running Art Shows for the last several weekends and wow props to the people that run the big craft fairs. The Art Community is so generous with there time, ideas and support. I want to thank everybody who has helped me on this journey, friends, family and the clients that believe in us! Most of you who are now friends as well. We are planning to start teaching and sharing our passion for art in classes starting in January. We already have a great group of talented artists that are so excited to teach! I will be teaching jewelry, Susan and Andrea will be teaching a variety of lessons and the amazing artists are starting to come out of the woodwork. I believe we have a painter and maybe a mosaic artist. We put the positive energy out there and it seems to come back. Thanks Lisa Scala

The Two Design Faces of Lisa Scala Handmade Jewelry, Art & Fashion is the two different styles that I am inspired to create. The newest style is the more contemporary style where I am working more simply in sterling silver. This design process is more about form and a bit of color. I tend to wear this style more myself, but I do love the vintage jewelry from the 1920's, 50's, 60's and 70's. I am inspired by an Asian and African feel in both of these design areas. The design process that I had been working in is "Retro Redesign" making fashion forward jewelry out of quality antiques and vintage items. I am starting to create what I call my bridge pieces, with these I combined an amazing vintage part and incorporate into a unique contemporary form. This seems to be the direction that I am headed and I am very excited! There is still something about these vintage finds and the sense of history that intrigues me. I also love that it is recycling and honoring the past. I am very lucky to be able to evolve, create and still love the process!

What Books Inspire You?

I have been trying to read books that will help me in business as well as in life lately. I have listed a few that I have enjoyed and that had a really great perspective on life. The One Minute Entrepreneur surprised me with it's advice and moral view on doing business. I highly recommend this book. I did list a few that were just entertainment, I tend not to read for fun enough. The Last Cato has twists and turns and is just fun! New Faze of Creativity!

I have made a commitment to myself to get back into metalsmithing which I have mentioned before. I have been making new work with new exciting designs and materials for shows and Etsy. I'm still trying to use vintage and new materials that inspire me and that are interesting and unique. As you can see in my current work I am having fun!

I just read in a book that a good rule of thumb for a crafter to ask themselves, when making a new design is "would I buy this for myself"? Or in my case would I wear this myself? I have been trying to keep this in mind and also running some of this stuff by my stylish friends and family.

I would like the style of my jewelry to be recognized but also keep it fresh and fun to create.

Do you have any techniques or suggestions on keeping the focus and excitement?

Making Changes

We are working on my website today trying to improve on what you see and what you don't. I am very lucky to have my husband! He is a graphic designer, but most of all the most supportive person in my life! Thank You God! We are not only giving it a new fresh look but updating some of the print so it's more me. We are also updating the site with my new inventory and mediums. I am still struggling with the whole issue of making what I want vs. what sells. I'm on a constant search to meld the two together, its a fine balance. I want to have the freedom to create whats on my mind and in my soul but those nasty bills keep haunting me. My husband is doing well but I want to help out financially. "Just keep going with a positive mind and it will happen." This is what other amazing artist keep telling me "Thanks!" I would love to hear from you about what you think about the changes in my sight I am always open to suggestions and improvements. Thanks! (the changes should happen over the next couple of weeks)

I am showing my paintings to the public for the first time and I'm a little nervous and excited. I have been painting for my own pleasure for years among other artsy things and loving it! My inspiration always comes from nature and the human body. It is hard to put into words but it also comes from my emotions and feelings on a subconscious level. Getting a little deep on ya, but it is the most wonderful healing process to paint or just create. I get into to a zone that I lose track of all time and everything around me and as anyone who has kids knows this is close to impossible.This is where I become a little skeptical or weary of selling my art. I don't want to create to sell, I want people to connect with my work and want to have it. I think I will have to keep this in check. Saying that I have been drawing and taking pictures of amazing plants and things that I can't waite to transform into my new work. I would love to hear your input and exsperiences with this topic.

Collecting Inspirations!

Collecting beautiful & interesting things has always been an important part of my life. I have always been a collector, at first it was rocks and shells and now has gone into many different directions such as mid-century furniture, Madonnas, acrylic items and botanical prints to name a few. I do have to keep this in check by holding back on starting new collections. My mothers tells me this started as early as three years old with pockets full of stones and other small objects. The color, form, and texture of these collections are so inspirational to my work. As you can see I have always been attracted to small objects so it's no surprise that I am a jeweler by trade. I do still collect shells and rocks on a much larger scale now but they are still my favorites. I am amazed that mother nature creates these wonderful colorful, most incredible objects. My collections do seem to have connections to one another either in texture color or in a family memory or tradition. It was funny taking pictures of them because I saw connections that I never realized before. It was kind of interesting to stand back from what I'm attracted to and see how they relate. I have always kept up with trends and I guess my mom and grandmother always did as well. I do appreciate the new exciting designs that come out on the runways and in the magazines, but I do think there is something to be said for those who create there own style. These unique individual styles and the designer trends seem to always have a foot in the past. This is why I have always worn a vintage mix with contemporary fashions, together they create my own thang. The trends this season are lavender, rose, colorful flowers, flowered jewelry and plunging necklines(the dudes will be phyched). Pulling a few of these together with a vintage redesigned handbag and jewelry will set your outfit apart from the rest. The Elegance of the 1940's and 1950's

The 1940's and 1950's were all about elegance and style. Ladies with their fitted suits and Kelly bags were so amazing! The Kelly bag was named after the movie star Jean Kelly, the picture of elegance and poise. Another star that personified this style spanning all the way through the 60's was my favorite, Audrey Hepburn. Could you get more style and grace? Filigree pins and beautiful classic strands of pearls were all the fashion in the forties. Coming out of the 20's and 30's Deco period with geometrical angles led the forties in with softer lines and shapes. Ladies clothing fit the curvy lines of their bodies and accessories were more feminine with ornate details and flowers. The fifties led them even further into bolder fashions. The alligator bags and very colorful patterns were all the rage. To set the perfect backdrop for these styles the home interiors changed as well. In both the forties and fifties the furniture style took a bold turn from their classic wood styles from the past. New materials such as Bakelite and acrylics were used with formed plywood and chrome. This was a very exciting time for designers, we still take many of our modern design concepts from this period. Gem Stone Beads

I have always been amazed that these beautiful, colorful gemstones naturally come from the earth. Since I was a little kid I have collected rocks for there great shapes and colors. The science behind it is fascinating, but there seems to be something spiritual to it! I am so lucking to have access to these wonderful gemstones to use in my work. I love how they accent the vintage finds that I love to use in my work. Some of my favorite stones are moonstone, jasper, agate, quartz, lapis, amethyst, rose quartz, jade, I could go on forever. I have always been attracted and influence by Asian art and antiques. The quality, incredible craftsmanship and design are just a cut above rest. The design aspect ranges from very intricate carving to a simple elegance. I love to find these vintage Asian treasures to use in my work, there's nothing better than starting with an incredibly crafted piece to work with. Art Deco

The Art Deco period was from the 1920's to the early 1930's. This is one of my favorite design periods, I love it's clean geometric lines and beautiful color combinations! The styles of this time where innovative and a little risque. The women wore short sheath dresses showing a bit of leg. The jewelry of this was spectacular with emerald cut stones and black enamel details. Long opera length beaded necklaces and large dangle earring showed off their short bob hair cuts. There are so many design elements from that time, architectural and art, that are still used by current designers. This was one of the greatest times fashion and design. You should check it out. I had a friend tell me her secret to her success was visualizing and writing down what her perfect business is, then thinking and living it. She kept checking to see if I thought she was crazy, but I think she has something here. Putting good out there seems to bring good back, so maybe if used in all aspects of life you will prosper. Looking for Finds!

Yesterday my cousin and I made a trip to find some vintage treasures to sell. I did find this amazing piece of mid-century pottery to sell or maybe to keep. This is the dance we do in every shop, we find plenty of things that we want for ourselves, but not so many to sell. We laugh and joke the whole time wondering if we're going to get kicked out of the antique shops for having to much fun. Some behind the desks are friendly, but others are showing their aggravation with a slowing antique business. This business is having a really rough go of it in this economy, so if you like vintage you might want support your local vintage shops. Sadly they may not be around if we don't. Here they are! Some of my feather jewelry pieces. These were some of the most fun pieces to to work on. The process was almost spiritual, I know I'm getting a little cheesy but it was great! The feathers are just beautiful and are a nice connection to nature. I love pairing organic, with manufactured items like the heavy chain, it's unexpected and edgy. I know I'm a little wacky with how I get so excited with these vintage finds. I just respect the artist and craftsman of the past and love the care and quality they put into their work. I'm addicted to finding treasures and giving them a new life. When I'm creating, either an object or color combo is where I start, next is balance with symmetry or visual balance. Fabric!

Check this find out! I love fabric so much! I have always collected vintage fabrics and now I am starting to use them in my purses and key chains. This fabric could not be more "me" Feathers, Lily of the Valley,(my nick name from my Nana) vintage watches,leaves and love letters. Can you believe it? It's fabulous... I can only sew a straight line so I'm hoping that someone that can really sew will get this fabric. The colors and designs are wonderful, I just keep them around for inspiration and so using them is just a great bonus. I've made pillows and curtains, not well so don't look to closely. I found feathers at a local antique shop (buy local) I can't wait to get started. Pearls have been a really important material for me all along, but I'm trying new combo's that I love. Not So Prim Pearls, a little more fun and edgy than the classic pearls. I dig finding the vintage treasures almost as much as I love creating the jewelry. Being Inspired!

Purple and grey are hot colors right now, I started getting into purple last year through fashion mag. Osmosis I'm sure, but I've been finding so many great purple vintage pieces lately and its inspiring. Check out these 80's beads that have an African flare when I used them like this, it looks so amazing on and I made it in two pendant lengths. I love the longer one it so bold and a little edgy.

I just learned that one of the styles that I've been working in is called Steam Punk, who knew, I've been saying Elegance with an Edge! If your out of the loop like me it's romantic, black, Victorian, Halloween, mad scientist all wrapped up in one. I love it and have collected this kind of stuff for along time. Some of my favorites are an acrylic ring with a bug inside,a big black Bakelite heart on large black links, my hand necklace,and my black crow print to name few. I have a new piece to photograph that has a black horn,grey chain and pearls, Steam Punk maybe? I do love making jewelry but I need to get back to my painting! New Years Resolution.
